Surrey Place Centre physicians are actively involved in research and best clinical practice development through various initiatives and collaborative activities that link us with developmental disabilities centres and services throughout Canada and beyond.
Examples of Health Related Research Activities include:
- The Autism Treatment Network (ATN): Surrey Place Centre in partnership with Bloorview Kids Rehab and SickKids has been named the first Canadian site of this North American initiative sponsored by Autism Speaks . The goal is to improve medical care for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
- Enhancing the health and quality of life of Ontarians with developmental disabilities by making evidence-informed primary health care more readily available. This is a five-year plan supported by Ontario’s Ministry of Community and Social Services and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and Surrey Place Centre Foundation.
- Development of International Guidelines on the Use of Medication for Problem Behaviours in Adults with Intellectual Disabilities under the auspices of the World Psychiatry Association.
- Federally funded population-based study of autism and psychiatric disorders in teenagers with intellectual disabilities; collaboration with colleagues in Ontario, Nova Scotia and the U.K.
